Safeguarding and Child Protection (Parent Friendly)

At Co-op Academy Medlock, all of the adults around think that the health, safety and welfare of your children are very important. We respect all of your children and want to keep them safe and help to protect their rights. We do our best to help all children make good progress and to be happy.

We ask all staff, visitors and parents to have a responsibility for safeguarding our pupils. To ensure this we ask the following:

  • Switch off your mobile phone/device and store it in your bag
  • In the event you do need to use your mobile phone or camera enabled device, please do so in an area that is not accessed by the children, this includes corridors. Such places could be in one of the offices or in the staff room.
  • Do not take pictures, videos or sound recordings of any pupils unless you have sought permission from the school.

Safeguarding Procedure

  1. Staff share any safeguarding concerns with one of our Designated Safeguarding Leads- MIss Brighouse, Mr Brown, Mrs Nutton-Jones, Mrs Williams, Mrs Mirza or Miss McColgan.
  2. This concern will then be recorded onto our Safeguarding system - CPOMS.
  3. The Designated Safeguarding Lead will then act on the information provided by either contacting parents, social care or the Manchester Designated Officer who will then investigate the concern.

What to do if you have a concern

  • If you have a concern about a child please pass this on to the child’s class teacher who will then follow our safeguarding procedures.
  • Report your concern to us on our school website:

Report a Concern

Always share concerns with school staff, no matter how small they may appear, and don’t keep them to yourself.
