Team Medlock wins the 2025 Spelling Bee!

We are so proud of our pupils who brought back the first place trophy from the Co-op Academies Trust Spelling Bee on Friday 7 February.
Teams from 28 academies (primary and secondary) from across the Trust came together at Co-op’s Headquarters, 1 Angel Square to compete in the annual competition.
This is the third year running for the fun, challenging spelling competition. Led by the Trust’s English Director, Hannah Lilley, it provides a fantastic opportunity for students to meet fellow peers from other schools.
It’s a great experience for young people to develop their confidence, practise public speaking skills and to thrive under pressure!
English Director at Co-op Academies Trust, Hanna Lilley, said:
“It was a fantastic day at our third and biggest yet annual Spelling Bee. We saw 28 teams from Years 5 and 6 and 7 and 8 compete to be crowned Spelling Bee champions.
“Our finalists were asked to spell really tricky words such as effervescent, lugubrious, mellifluous and the audience’s favourite - defenestration.
“It was fantastic to see everyone involved show such a love for language and have tremendous courage to perform under pressure in front of peers from across the Trust. A huge well done to everyone who took part.”
