Spring Term 1 Newsletter

Spring Term 1

Go Year 6 Spelling Team!

I have to start this newsletter by bigging up the Spelling Bee team from Year 6. Not only did they win the Primary Academy competition, taking on and beating contestants from across the trust, but in a play off with the High School winning team of Co-op Academy Belle Vue, they beat them as well!

Team Medlock, we are immensely proud of you!

Please stop and admire the trophy they brought back with them next time you are passing through the main reception hall - it is in our ever growing trophy cabinet!

Happy Valentine's Day - Thanks for the Chocolate!

Thank you to everyone who has donated chocolate for today’s Valentine’s Day wear red event. It is very generous of you. We will hold a chocolate sale on the Friday of the first week back. All proceeds go to the school fund, specifically all money raised here will go toward keeping the cost of trips and visits as low as possible.

Tests Tests Tests!

Today marks the halfway point of the school year - where does the time go? This of course means that the statutory tests the children will be doing are just around the corner.

Doing their best in the coming tests is obviously important - all the research shows a strong link between doing well in primary tests with higher pass rates in their GCSEs and beyond. Please be assured to do everything we can to minimise the stress such tests can cause to the children whilst really looking at what each child needs to do their best.

Please look out for information from your children’s teachers on how you can best support them at home in the run up to any tests they will be having. A really good way of helping is making sure they are reading (and AR testing) daily, getting their LBQs completed and really hammering their TTRs (times table rockstars). Fluency is the key to success in maths!

Co-op Community Team

After school today we will be having another giveaway. We have some more hygiene products from the Co-op Community team to give out. We will also see if we have any surplus food donations too. Please pop along. We will be at the front gate from 3.15.

The Co-op Community team will also be helping us get ready for Spring. Over half term they are sending some volunteers from Mitie who will be helping Ms Hopkins get the Garden ready. Hopefully they will also get the greenhouse back into shape after the storms blew it up.

Healthy Schools

A number of parents have flagged with staff that their children have been given sweets or treats by other families. Please only give out treats or sweets to children if you have OKed it with their parents. Many children have allergies and dietary requirements (whether medical, cultural or religious) so a kind hearted gesture could result in a negative consequence for a child.

Have a Great Week
